Roadbed
The whole track formation is good only the few portion is weak in formation. The main cause of bad leveling of the track is due to the lack of ballast. Standard cross section is not respected. Drainage systems are not maintained properly.
Track Maintenance
Track maintenance works are mainly done manually by track maintenance gangs. These gangs are stationed about 4 miles (6.4km) apart. The gang consists of one head trackman. one patrolman and three workers. There are Mechanized maintain gangs in each divisions but maintenance machineries are not available in sufficient amount. [a addition of using mechanized maintenance system, contracts works was given for maintenance of the track. As a results the condition was much improved.
Existing Situation and Problem of rolling stock
At present, Myanmar Railways has a fleet of 261 Nos. of Diesel Locomotives. Out of these locomotives, 68.04% are available for use and the rest 31.96% are under repair & awaiting repair. Age group of these locomotives are as follow:-
